One of the flagships of the French fleet, the 74-gun Neptune was commanded by Chevalier Charles Souchet Destouches. The Neptune carried the fleet's printing press which was moved ashore to the "parc de la marine" in Newport, Rhode Island.
Any publications from fleet's press while in America are rare; Library owns one of the only complete copies of the Calendrier français, an almanac listing the newly arrived forces printed in Newport in late 1780 (call no.: L2010F206 1781).
