Extract from the journal of le chavalier de Monteil, commander of the French Naval ship Palmier, which was part of Guichen's fleet in the West Indies.
The document relates the fleet’s departure from Brest on February 2, 1780, including encounters with the enemy, and their arrival at Martinique on March 22. Monteil describes three naval engagements against the British, noting Guichen's errors in tactics as well as their successes; also describes casualties and illnesses suffered by the crew, as well as damages and subsequent repairs to the ships.
Stitched with blue ribbon.
Monteil became an original member of la Société des Cincinnati de France.
