Gist writes to Walter Stewart that he hoped that he would have been sailing to Philadelphia for the Society's general meeting at this point, but "the Secretary of the General Society of the Cincinnati having neglected to give official information of the time & place intended for the general meeting, the delegates of this State, have found it prudent to decline their embarkation ..." (Gist was an original member of the Maryland Society, but moved to Charleston and transferred his membership to the South Carolina Society. South Carolina was not represented at this meeting); also notes regarding the Gist family coat of arms and the state debts.
With red wax seal bearing the Gist family coat of arms.
Walter Stewart was an original member of the Pennsylvania Society.
