Summary
Item 2b is a typed Memo to WJB dated 12/16/57 initialled in ink J.T.C.|Both were removed from the J. D. Patch title When the British captured Washington: "I had not realized previously that Commodore Barney was the hero (in fact the only American who did not run) at the Battle of Bladensburg."|Barney was an origininal member of the Pennsylvania Society of the Cincinnati, then transferred to the Maryland Society.

In item [2a] Patch describes his search for information about the Battle of Bladensburg: "The deeper I got into it, the more respect and admiration I had for your ancestor, the Commodore [Joshua Barney]"
"For your information the mother of E.B.White, Mayor of Leesburg, Va. was a Barney and decended from the Commodore. I wonder if you know him."
The mayor of Leesburg from 1955-1957 was Elijah B. White.
