Friendly letter mentioning an enclosed pamphlet (not present) that "perhaps it would interest you.."
"I had some papers about the encampment, and thought perhaps you sent the, but the wrapper was destroyed, and I did not see ... any name on it."
"Ater I read them I sent them to a friend of my husband Wm. H. Hatch of Carthage, Mo., formerly of Des Moines." This W. H. Hatch is apparently not to be confused with William Henry Hatch (1833-1896), sponsor of the Hatch Act, whose biographies make no mention of either Sarah J. Hatch or of Des Moines. Moreover, hur husband had died prior to Oct. 28, 1892.
"Have just heard of the death of our presidents wife. I can sympathize with him be sad experience."
