"Lorrillard [sic], tobacconist living near the Jail makes snuff -- three kinds makes he - coarse, middling, & fine ...." North requests 2 lobs of each, or 6 pounds of either ...."|North refers to a previous talk with "the Baron", i.e., Steuben, but snuff was not a subject. Pierre Lorillard was a Huguenot who had established his shop in Manhattan as early as 1760.|"Mr. Duane & his family are set off also. We are ... free & independant [sic] & having wheat beef & pork enough to live on this winter ...."|Both North and Walker served as aide-de-canp to Steuben, and all three were original members of the Society of the Cincinnati.|William North was James Duane's son-in-law.|Pages [2] and [3] are blank; p.
