"The bearer is the unfortunate father of Wm Ware who lately lost his life. I think fifteen or twenty guineas might be well employed as compensation for the sufferings of his family, but of this your excellency will be the best judge & excuse the liberty I have taken,"|Morris was the Superindendent of Finance from 1781-84; Vergennes was Foreign Minister at the time.|Document may be related to the 1782 French agreement to protect American merchant ships from British depredations along the eastern coast. One William Ware is known to have transported naval cannon and other naval supplies to aid the French in 1778 and may have lost his life in a later similar endeavor.|Page [2] is blank.
