Major Orr's diary on march through Massachusetts to West Point, N.Y., including weather, medicine, military routine; accounts relate chiefly to domestic matters, and apparently a blacksmith's business.

Robert Orr & his father Hugh Orr cast the first cannons ever made in America at their foundry in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts in 1775 and provided muskets and cannon for the revolutionary war by government contract in 1776. Major Orr served in the Continental Army and later manufactured the first scythes by water power in America. He was appointed the first Superintendent and Armorer of the Springfield Armory in 1795 and helped design the first muskets [Model 1795] for the United States Army.
