Summary
It is further stated that the merchandise is "to be delivered in the like good order and well conditioned ... (the danger of the seas & enemy only excepted) until Mr. Sam.l Vernon Tertius or to his assings [sic], he or they paying freight, ten pr ct on the gross sales or estimation in America ...."|Samuel Vernon (1757-1834), a successful Newport merchant, is probably the Samuel Vernon known as "Tertius" named herein.|Jonathan Williams was a grandnephew of Benjamin Franklin and the Continental commercial agent in France during the Revolution|Shubal (or Shubael) Worth appears occasionally in the Naval Documents of the American Revolution as a sea captain.|Watermark: [G. "Shipped by the grace of God in good order and well conditioned by Jonathan Williams Junr. in ... the good brig Sally whereof is Master ... Shubal Worth and now ... at anchor in the River Loire and bound for Newport ... merchandise amounting as pr invoice to six hundred & fifteen livres...."
