Docketed on verso: Survey & division / of Middleton's land / March 1, 1780 ... (but actually later -- see statement of responsibility.|Also on verso: In obedience to an order of Westmoreland County court we the subscribers have aloted [sic] the lands to each claimant agreeable to the within plot [at top of p. [1]]|Also on verso: At a court held for Westmoreland County the 25th day of July 1780, a plot of division of lands of John Middleton the Elder ... being returned is ordered to be recorded.|Survey "in obedience to an order of the [Westmorland] county court bearing date of the 26th day of October 1779" dividing 379 acres of land previously belonging to John Middleton the elder, deceased.|The survey performed "in company and by directions of John Rochester and Samuel Rust, gentlemen appointed by the court.|The land was divided into 4 sections. Sections 1 and 2, 189 1/2 acres conveyed to John Middleton; section 3, 94 3/4 acres, to Jemima Middleton; section 4, 94 3/4 acres, shared by William and Thomas Middleton.|Garland was the official surveyor of Richmond County, from which place he probably wrote this report.
