"I do hereby certify that Bernhard Hanes of the township of Virplank & Perkio[me]n has furnished this state, for the use of the United States, with one sorril mare bald face which has been appraised ... at the sum of fifty five pounds) in specie and for which the state is now justly indebted to him in that sum, with interest. [signed] Barnhard Hanes|One Bernard Haines, possibly this one, was a captain in the 3rd company, 5th battalion of the Pennsylvania militia in 1780.|A document dated in July, 1780, in the Gilder Lehrman collection mentions Joseph Reed, as a member of the Executive Couincil of Pennsylvania seeking wagons and horses from one John Moore, possibly this John Moore, as wagon master of that state. However, on p. 666 of of J.W. Jordan's Colonial and Revolutionary families of Pennsylvania, Joseph Morgan was appointed wagon master in August, 1780.|Engraved decorative border
