Wilhelm Adolf von Braunschweig-Wolfenb
ttel (a nephew of Frederick the Great), wrote this elegy in praise of war when he was nineteen. He died during the Russo-Turkish War.
Ms. inscription on title: "Pour S. A. R. Madame Margrave de Schwedt Madame de Wintzingerode" (i.e. Margravine Philippine of Brandenburg-Schwedt, who later married Georg von Wintzingerode).
Numerous ms. corrections (probably by the author's hand) throughout the text.
Ownership stamp on title: Fideicommis Bodenstein.
Library copy: right lower margin of first several pages (including title) torn away, not affecting text.
