Compilation of addresses and essays about the contributions of African American soldiers and sailors to the American Revolution and War of 1812, issued to support enlisting black soldiers in the Union Army during the Civil War. Among the writers quoted are George Washington, Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Andrew Jackson, and African American minister William Howard Day. The work was compiled by William Lloyd Garrison while he was editor of The Liberator and a member of the American Anti-Slavery Society.
