"The French prisoners ordered from Burlington have been in town since the 17th instant. Confirming the cartel vessel must now be ready to take them on board I have to request that you ... give the proper directions for receiving them and transmit a receipt for them as well as those heretofore brought from Rhode Island, to this office."|"The enclosed letters [not present] are from a father to his son. Will you be so good as to give particular diections to the captain of the cartel to have them safely delivered."|Possibly refers to the 46 prisoners to be sent to France on the ship Benjamin Franklin --See Naval documents related to the Quasi-War between the U.S. and France, vol. 5, p. 543.|Stoddert was the Secretary of the Navy at the time of this letter; Letombe was Consul General of France in Philadelphia between 27 Sept. 1794 and 21 March 1801.|The Navy dept. moved from Philadelphia to Washington sometime in 1800.|Page [3] is blank; p.
