"Gardner & Stanton have done well I wish as much could be said for Gray, who does not yet appear; by whose last letter, & from other accounts its probable he left St. Thomas's about the 20 March."|"Capt. Gardner put his cotton off to Mr. Hale at 2/5 ... the price of the common sort is 2/1-2/2. Cocoa is from 63/ to 66/."|"We have a letter from [Newell?] dated at Georgia the 21 March he informs therein that he left France the 10 January that the insurance was made on his ship & cargo not in England but in France. I suspect his factor was not able to get it done in London was therefore under the necessity of applying to France for it."|"Newell also writes that he shall leave Georgia by the first of May for France & shall take with him indisputable proof of his property & will not leave the kingdom till the matter is settled ...."|Capt. Gardner is possible Caleb Gardner, a merchant and seaman in Rhode Island.
