Signed by John Osyer and attested by Jeremiah Bailey, judge of probate, on behalf of John Osyer of Bremen, Maine, for his service as a soldier during the revolutionary war.
Osyer was 85 years old at the time of the petition and gave a summary of his military career: "that he entered the service of the united States as a Private Soldier of the Massachusetts Militia in 1776 under Capt [Benjamin] Smith ... he was stationed while under said Captain Smith at the Granate [Gurnet] Fort at the entrance of Plymouth harbour ... That he assisted to build said Fort ... I was sent to Rhoad Island in what was called the Secret expedition under Captain Samuel Chandler ... that previous to said Seven months services--I was drafted and stood ready as a Minute man twelve months ..."
