Summary
Title vignette.|Translation of: "Georgina, or, Memoirs of the Bellmour family," published in 1787.|Authorship uncertain; English edition identifies the author as "a young lady" & French edtion attributes it to "l'auteur de 'Ce´cilia', (Frances Burney (1752-1840); introdution signed: "Georgina Bouverie" (a fictional personage, introduced as part of the frame of the narrative); sometimes attributes it to the novelist Ann Howell, perhaps on account of her 'Georgina, a novel' (London, 1796), though this appears to be a different work entirely.|Fictional 'memoir' in the form of letters from the author to her friend Mrs. Montague in Bengal.|Author's father, an army officer, is sent to fight in America and the family accompanies him to Boston; her brother enlists and is killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill; "to Lexington, on the fatal day, when hostilities commenced at Concord, between the Parent and her disoedient children"; the family flees to Canada and then to Boston where her mother and young brother die in a house fire, then back to England.|Bound in quarter morocco with green paper boards; gilt spine with maroon morocco label.
