This is the earliest known return for the united known as the “German Battalion” or “German Regiment,” which was composed of German-Americans, half recruited from Pennsylvania (such as Weiser’s, which was raised in Lancaster County) and half from Maryland.
In tabular form, listing names of the officers and soldiers with their dates of commission or enlistment, and name of soldier on the obverse or first page of the return; with listing of numbers for who is present or absent on recto; then attested to and certified by appended signature and date its commanding officer.
