Note
Elbridge Henry Goss, had written to Amariah Preston, a surviving veteran of the Revolutionary War, to request his autograph.
In replying, Preston added a postscript, “If you wish to know my age, I am in the fourth month of the ninety third year of my age.”
Amariah Preston joined the Continental Army in 1777 as a private in Col. Henry Jackson’s regiment and served for three years. After the war he became a medical doctor in Bedford, Massachusetts. He died in 1853.
