Perley marched to Lexington with Capt. Israel Hutchinson’s company of militia and subsequently served as an ensign in the 27th Continental Regiment in 1776.
After he returned to civilian life, he wrote details his complaints about errors in reckoning the back pay owed to him for his Continental service. He reminds Colonel Garrish that “There is three pound due to me exclusive of the above twenty shillings… which was the States encurigment to all Non Coms.d officers & privits which others have reciv.d ...” he amended application "will be deemed sufficient."
Partial red wax seal remains.
