"My private letters from Paris say that Mr. Cathalan consul U.S. at Marseilles had rec.d a circular from our consul at Tripoli informing that in Nov.r last the Bashaw [Pasha] declared that unless certain points between him & U.S. were settled in 6 months from the 22 Oct.r last, he w.d declar war."|Also mentions a "beneficial change in the constitution here by w. the text oath will be withdrawn" as well as new of Russia and Great Britain. Mentions difficulties with "our convention" in the U.S. senate.|Letter inquires about "our colleague Mr. [Oliver] Ellsworth" and reports that "[William Richardson] Davie was coldly received" in Paris.|Murray was the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands at the time; King, to Great Britain.|Apparently a retained copy; unsigned, but at end in pencil: MV Murray|Also at end: D'aranjo & Capt. Bosset had gone in the flagship before my letter reached Flzushing - of course my flour did not go!|King was an honorary member of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati
