A post-war letter from John Mitchell to his wife, Catherine Barnes Mitchell ("Kitty"), providing evidence of his personal life as a loving husband and father, as well as his fulfilling his civic responsibility as a juror in the state capital of Annapolis.
"Captain Marberry" who Mitchell mentioned had not appeared at court, was probably Captain Joseph Marbury, who had also served in the Maryland Line and was also an original member of the MD Society.
Mitchell entered service in the Continental Army as a 2nd lieutenant in the 1st Maryland in 1776; rose through the ranks to become captain of the 4th Maryland regiment.
