Summary
In an unidentified hand (or hands?), though the second memorandum reads "witness my hand for George Evans by me [signed] Peter Evans.|At top of p. [1]: Rec.d 4 mo 7th 1777 of Geo Evans & Jno Richardsson L25 on acc.t of the one sixteenth part of the brig Nancy [signed] James Marshall|Second memo: Oct. 8th 1778, Rec.d of John Richardson the sum of 187 pounds, 11 shillings, 1 pence, being on acc.t of brig Nancy in full."|Third memo: "The above 187 pounds that was put inoto my hands by James Marshall to pay to George Evans on acc.t of 1/32 part of the brig Nancy Hugh Montgomery, Master sold by said Marshall to sd Evans, shortly after I rec.d it ... I acquainted Geo: Evans I had the money .... Futher details follow, including timing of the transaction as "considerable time after I took said money to Brandywine & paid it to his son in his mill as he was not at home ...|"Some 3, 4, or 5 years after receiving sd money ... he comes to me & tells me I must make up to him for the depreciation of the money from the time I rec.d it till he receiv.d it ...."|"The reason he says he didn't call for it was that he told me to pay it to Richd. Richardson as he was indebted to him, which occasion I cant at all recollect ...."|"I believe the true cause to be that he was engaged in publick business at that time or there abouts the English Army was ap[p]roaching & he was a great deel [sic] from home & I suppose he did not want the money as there was plenty of C[illegible]ing there abouts|At bottom of p. [2] (docketed title when page is folded): Papers relating to settlement of Brig Nancy's Acco.t with George Evans|Also on p. [2]: draft bond in the estate of John Richardson of the Borough of Wilmington and County aforesaid in the sum of one hundred and eighty pounds in Spanish milled dollars|The Richardson family was a prominent Quaker family of merchants in the Wilmington area who owned and operated mills along the Columbia River.
