"This is to introduce to your acquaintence Mr. Joseph White ... of whose manners, abilities & character I entertain a very favorable opinion."|Humphreys was minister to Spain at the time of this letter and was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati.|Willis, who had been a sea captain during the American Revolution, was then the U.S. consul in Barcelona since named by President John Adams in 1797.|One Joseph White, possibly this one, is listed as an agent for Lloyd's of London in Valoencia in 1818.|Pages [2] and [3] are blank. at top of p.
