Summary
Refers to earlier letters concerning Capt. Charles Miel [or Meil].|"Charles Miel during his life rec.d a pension of 204$ under the act of Congress, 18 March 1818, and died in 1836. His heirs applied to me to obtain from the government the difference of pay which would have [been] due to Capt. Miel up to the time of his death .... The Commission of Pensions then ... said the heirs were not entitled and the claim would not be admitted."|"The Com.r of Pensions informed me that 'as Lieut Charles Miel was promoted to the rank of Cap. on the 13th of Sep.r 1780, and was discharged from the army on the 5 Oct. same year making 23 service [days] as Capt., his claim could only be so allowed."|"Also in the books of the Pay Table which contains principally accounts of service of the militia, Coast Guard &c. , service other than that of Continental there are accounts with Captain Charles Miel commencing March 17, 1781 and ending April 26, 1783, in which he is charged from time to time with orders on the treasurer for various services ...."|See also in this collection, MSS L1990.1.56, another letter from Ray to Field concerning Charles Miel, which covers the same service history.|Page [4] is address leaf.
