A second request for certifcation of the service of Capt. Charles Miel "during the war of the revolution." Though his service as lieutenant had been e accepted by the commission of Pensions War Department, that office "will not admit his srvice as captain, .... there being no satisfactory evidence that he performed any duty under his commission as captain ...."|"If it appears by your records that Capt. Miel did serve, as he swears he did, and to a period begun Dec.r 23, 1780, will you be pleased to send me an additional certificate ...."|On p. [3], apparently a copy of Field's reply: "Comptrollers Office ... August 5, 1836. I certify that the name of Lieut Charles Miel appears on the rolls of the Con.l line in this office &c &c &c as Lieut."|Below that note: The name of Capt. Charles Meil [sic] appears on the paytable books and his is credited Dec.r 23, 1780. By his account rendered for clothing, old Colonel [Heman] Swifts [7th Connecticut] Regt. In Heitman, the spelling corresponds with this version, but in Record of Connecticut men, he is listed as Miel.|On p. .[4], which is also the address leaf in a different hand [Field's?]: " ... 2d certificate made 16 Jan.y - promises to pay - promises to pay - directed him to enclose 2 dlls by mail .... His appointment as Cap. Lt. Council Safety vol. 2 p. 97 ,,, see Haskell p. 122 & 129 ....|Also 1838: Oct.r 29 made certificate of of [sic] above from Council Safety vol. 3 p.2 & from Haskell as above & corresponding entry in Pay Table Journal - no pay recv.d charg.d him $2.|See also in this collection, MSS L1990.1.57, another letter from Ray to Field concerning Charles Miel.
