Summary
As a son of George Hubbard, Jonathan Hubbard writes seeking proof of his father's service in order to obtain his pension.|"In the spring of 1775 he was called out as one of the malitia [sic], being an ensign, & went to the vicinity of Boston & performed military duty there till after the British forces went to N. York."|"[E]arly in the spring of 1776 took a lieutenants commission in the Continental service & remained in the army till the winter or spring of 1778."|"[H]e returned home ... I think in February of that year & found his property mostly lost by the operation of the paper money, and to provide for a young family ... he resigned his commission & moved up to Claremont in New Hampshire, about ten miles south of this place, where he lived ... till he died in April 1818."|"Out of eight children, four now survive."|"Ichabod Hinckly of said Tolland went out at the same time, was a captain, but whether my father belonged to his company or not, I cannot remember." Hinckly [Hinckley] and George Hubbard did serve in the same 2nd Connecticut Regiment between 1 Jan. 1777 and 15 May 1778, when Hubbard resigned. -- Record of Connecticut men ... p. 158.|"I remember many particulars about the service but suppose the above sufficient to direct your inquiry."|At end of postcript on p.
