"You are requested if in your power to furnish positive or documentary proof of service rendered by James Mallory to the United States during the Revolutionary War as a soldier in the militia .... of Connecticut about New Haven East Haven Westhaven & Fairfield &c."|"He was referred to you by J. L. Edwards Com.r of Pensions."|Service mentioned includes about 8 days in 1778 under Lieut. Allen Ives; about 8 days in 1779 under Capt. Jesse Goodyear, "he thinks the militia organized under Col [Stephen] Ro[w]e Bradley of Cheshire ....:"|"As soon as he got home an express came that the British was at Norwalk he turned back under the command of Allen Ives .... [B]efore they got there Norwalk was burnt .... [I]n this tour out 15 days distance from his residence at Hamden about 40 miles."|"[I]n June 1781 he entered the service as substitute for Daniel Bra__ who was drafted for six months ... under Capt Bazell [Basil] Munson Lieut Dwight he thinks. [T[he company was attached to Col Meigs Regiment[.] [T]heir duty was to guard the different harbors about New Haven ...."|"Also in June 1780 he was drafter for 3 months" under Captain Jesse Goodyear, Lieut. Allen Ives, Ensign Hezekiah Dickerman and rendezvoued at New Haven with a regiment commanded by Col. Butler.|Letter refers to the "Regulations under the Act of June 7, 1832" that defines proof of service.
