Summary
Requests confirmation but not a certificate of the Revolutionary war record of Ephraim Morgan, whose widow is applying for a pension based on his service. Also encloses a similar letter dated May 9, 1853.|Service mentioned includes as an aid to General Washington for "6 months or upwards" as well as service in the commissary department "through most of the war."|Mrs. Morgan, who authorized Marks to "investigate this mattrer ... is intitled to a pension under act of 3d February 1853."|Mr. Morgan had papers which if in existence would now be of service to his widow, but his house was burned before his death & the papers destroyed...."|Morgan served in the 1st Connecticut & in the Commissary Dept.|A commissioner in the Pension Office found evidence in 1857 that Elizabeth Morgan, widow, was entitled to receive the pension and that her husband had died before March 4, 1848.|See in the collection: MSS L1990.1.36 for further correspondence on the subject
