The Fish letter states that "The troops raised by the State of Connecticut in 1775 were generally if not entirely enlisted either for the period of seven or of five months." Because Russel Dennis' declaration states that his period of enlistment was six months, Fish recommends that Stanton apply to the office of the Comptroller of Public accounts in Hartford for a certificate of Dennis' service.|One Russel Dennis is listed in the Pension Roll of 1835 as having Continental service -- Record of Connecticut men of the military and naval service during the War of the Revolution, p. 655. His name does not appear in the D.A.R. Patriot index.|Stanton's letter to Phelps requests records on behalf of his friend Russel Dennis that Dennis may receive his military pension.|Dennis' service included a march from Norwich to Cambridge in Capt. William Coit's company and was then placed under the command of Major Brown "a short time - when Maj.r Brown was called away & Dennis left under some other officers which he cannot recollect ...."|"Dennis was in the battle at Bunker Hill."|Pages [3] and [4] are address leaves for the respective letters.
