"By direction of J. L. Edwards, Commissioner of Pensions, I apply to you for the evidence in your office to support the claims of William Richardson & Samuel Brooker.... I hope you will forward certificates in each case as they will have to be sent separately to the Pension Office, and send me your bill & I will forward the pay."|At bottom of p. [3]: "I write for 2 old applicants for pensions. I hope you will be able to attend to them immediately as both men are poor & infirm ...."|Includes supporting evidence for both claimants. "William Richardson is 77 years of age, born at Coventry ... Connecticut." Service record icluded 6 months in Capt. Ozias Bissells Company; marched to Boston, where he was stationed at Roxbury. Again enlisted for 1 year in Connectuct State Troops under Lieut. Johnson & Col. Pitkin; in 1776 he served in Capt. Phelps's of Simsbury's Company he marched to New York, thence to Hackensack , thence to Westchester where he was discharged by his brother Ezekiel Richardson. In 1778, he enlisted at Coventry for 1 year in Capt. William [Harvey's?] Company, Col. [David] Mason's Reg.t, ordered to Springfield, Massachusetts, served 1 year in what was then called the Continental works making cartridge boxes scabbards, &c., discharged April 1779."|Samuel Brooker, "of Washington (Mass)" was born at Simsbury, now called Granby Hartford Co., Conn. His service: 10 days in Jan., 1778, volunteered in Capt. Jobe Case's Company; marched to Greenbush & back to Farmington; July 1778, enlisted in Capt. Adonijah Burr's Company for 2 months, marching to White Plains, thence to West Point & discharged. In Nov. 1778, he enlisted for 21 days in Capt. Ozias Pettibone's Company and guarded "part of Gen. Burgoyne's troops from Suffield to Sharon where they were received by United States Troops."|In 1779, Brooker enlisted on 1 July for 3 months in Capt. Jonathan Case's Company, Col. Noah Phelps; Regt., marching to Hackensack;|In March,1780, he enlisted for 2 months in Capt. Adonijah Burr's Company and march to Horseneck; in June, 1780, he was drafted to join the Continental troops at West Point; joined Col. Jonathan Hoyt's Regiment, marched to Peekskill , returned, & marched into New Jersey. He was discharged "about the 1st Jan.y 1781, having served 6 months.|Neither the D.A.R. Patriot index nor The record of Connecticut men lists a Jonathan Hoyt who served as a Col.|The writer is probably Daniel B. Bush, Jr., son of Daniel B. Bush, Sr., who had served in the militia during the Revolution.
