Docketed on verso: Edward P. Harris for Timothy Lockwood Jan. 1845, suggesting that Harris' date may be incorrect. The date in the stamped postmark is illegible.|At bottom of p. 1, in a different hand: 11 January. Wrote no evidence found - would inform him if any proof should hereafter be found|"I write you in behalf of a feeble old lady and very poor withal, the widow of Timothy Lockwood, deceased. She is endeavoring to procure a pension on account of service of her husband in the Revolutionary War. It is supposed that Lockwood served on board the ship Trumbull, and also on board the Morning Star,."|"If she receives a pension she will be able to compensate you."|Two men served as the comptroller of Connecticut in 1844: Gideon Welles from 1842-1844 and Abijah Carrington from 1844-1846. The ms. note regarding the comptroller's response is similar to that of A. Carrington in the 1846 letter from E.W. Andrews in the collection. Moreover, if the address on p. [1] is actually 1845, Carrington is definitely the comptroller to whom the letter is addressed.|Two vessels named Trumbull, a frigate and a galley, served in the Continental Navy; the Morning Star, a privateer. Possibly this Trumbull was a part of the Connecticut State Navy.|One of two Timothy Lockwoods listed in the DAR index is a possibility; he lived from 1740-1818 and married a Sussanah Silkworth; however, he is listed as a private, not a naval rank.|Pages [2] and [3] are blank; p.
