Summary
"On application for evidence of the service of Joshua Raymond, I have examined the papers remaining in the office relating to the Revolutionary War, and find as follows ...." [signed on p. [3]: Jenry Kilbourn Compt. Hartford, Aug. 18, 1838. Then more evidence signed C.J. {McCarthy?] Aug. 31, 1838|Evidence ncludes extracts from various pay tables, the Journal of the Council of Safety, and bouty records from 1775-1782.|1777 service mentioned includes that in Capt. Jonathan Calkings' company; in Col. Latimers Regiment of militia for which he was granted bounty and recompense for hospitalization.
Col. Levi Wells, Capt.l Ozias Bissell fo the Connecticut militia under Gen.l Gates;;;|In June, 1778, he remained in Capt. Jonathan Calkings' Company of milllitia....|April 23, 1780, "Col.o Levi Wells ordered to send forward such men as are or shall enlisted into his regiment, as fast as they shall enlist and can be got ready to the post at New London"|Crossed out at bottom of p. [1]: Ozias Bissell appointed Captain in the [house?] of Edw.d Payne, resigned in Col.o Levi Wells Regt."|"And among other appointments in the same regiment is that of Joshua Raymond, Jun.r Lieut. in room of Sanford Billings."|At bottom of p. [2], partially crossed out: "Militia under Gen.l [Horatio?] Gates to the northward 1777. Also, in Pay Table Journal, Cap. Adam Shapley is charged to order on Treas.r in new acc.t for his matross company at N. London 1000 [pounds]|Also documented are payments to Adam Shapley's company for guard duty at Fort Trumbull.|On page [3]: "Resolved, That Lt. Col.o Levi Wells with the regim.t under his command, do immediately march to the Highlands, in the state of New York, and on his arrival, to inform Maj.r Gen.l How [sic] thereof, and that if there be any in said regiment who cannot by law to be compelled to go out of this state, that they be turned over to Lt. Col.o [Bezaleel?] Beebe's Reg.t and the like number be drafted from Beebes regiment in this room."|At bottom of p. [3]: Dear Sir.
