"I paid the money you left in my hands, and shall pay in two days more, twenty eight dollars. I have heard nothing of Mr. Lambert, you will make your self [sic] easy untill you come here."|Some discussion of "the China business": "There will several vessels go, the Woodrope Sims, which you know. I have said nothing to sims about you. I don't think she will do. Haight is a going. I have spooke [sic] to him about you. He has no objections. You know there is nothing like being on the spot."|"You will please to make my respects to my old friend and shipmate Doctor [Lawrence or Laurence?] Brooks."|"Dr. Lawrence Brooke was surgeon of the Bon Homme Richard, of which ship another Virginian, Richard Dale, was first lieutenant." -- Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, VII, (1899), p. 289.
