Business matters, including the balance of a debt owed to Tilghman relating to the Potomac Company, delayed in part because of "the badness of the roads so that nothing could come down from the back country."|Col. John Fitzgerald was one of George Washington's aides-de-camp, and one of the first directors of the Potomac Company, which was organized to improve navagability for commerce. -- see Robert J. Kapsch. Confederation series, vol. 2, pp. 87-89.|Mentions his involvement with a "distillery which has drawn from a Mr. Lyles & myself upwards of " 9.000 pounds "that we did ot expect in the beginning...."|Fitzgerald owned a rum distillery in Alexandria -- see Dennis J. Pogue. Founding spirits (2011), pp. 115 and 215.|Also mentions the price and value of burr stone for millstones,32 pairs of which he is sending by Captain Mann.|Tilghman, who died shortly after this letter was written, had also served as an aide-de-camp to Washington.|Docketed on p.
