"Although the academy at West Point is surcharged ... for the present year and near July for the next yet the case of young Beale [sic] is too strong to be resisted."|Probably refers to Lloyd James Beall of Maryland, who entered the Academy in 1826 and graduated 1 July 1830 (#611 on the register). He was the son of Capt. Lloyd Beall, an original member of the Maryland Society of the Cincinnati.|Barbour was Secretary of War at the time of this letter.
