An unsigned response to Wallace's challenge of June 23, 1775, and purchased with that letter -- see MSS L1989.1.482.|"In answer to your billet, I must say that I bear no malice; nothing (except losing my own life) could give me greater pain than taking your or the life of any man."|"I am besides unprovided in every respect for the meeting you propose, however if you are determinded, I must take a longer time to prepare myself & rather than be accounted a scoundrel will meet you, when so prepared."|Identity of Brindley is uncertain.
