Note
Head and shoulders to the right in uniform wearing a fur hat with feathers. He wears the medal of the Ordre of Saint Louis and
the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati on his left lapel. Oval. There is no identification of the engraver, but it appears to be a copy of the engraving by H. B. Hall after the Peale.
This print is page 365-366 from The American Historical Register. On the verso it reads: Armand, Charles Trefin [sic], Marquis de la Rouaire [sic]. French officer, who served as Brigadier-General in the American army during the Revolutionary War. Born in Fougeres, France, April 14, 1751. Died near Lambelle, France, January 30, 1793. In 1781 he became dissatisfied with the promotions in the army and returned to France, where he, out of his own means, procured clothing an accoutrements, came back to America in time to participate in the siege of Yorktown, and the surrender of Cornwallis."
