Discusses Quincy's having edited the diaries of Samuel Shaw and his willingness to help a Mr. Ward in a future project..|"It would give me great pleasure to cooperate with Mr. Ward anything which will tend to perpetuate & keep in remembrance the virtues and services of that beloved friend of my youth Major Samuel Shaw ...."|"I prepared the memoir. ... Your father [Robert Gould Shaw] gave me as many copies as I wanted to distribute among my friends. He paid the whole cost of printing, publishing & I believe stereotyping. The plate of the portrait was at his cost & belong to him. I think he once told me he had given it ... to the Boston Marine Society .... I will endeavour to see Thomas Lamb ... the president of the Society."|Francis G. Shaw, a descendant of Samuel Shaw, who was an original member of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
