White Eyes's young men 2 lb of paint."|In 1775 and early 1776, Yeates served as captain in the Lancaster militia under Colonel Matthias Slough and played a vital role with the organization and equipping of the militia. His militia duties were interrupted in July, 1776, when the Continental Congress appointed Yeates to the Commission on Indian Affairs to negotiate a treaty with the Lenape Indians at Fort Pitt in Oct., 1776.|White Eyes was a member of the Lenape tribe who became chief of the Delawares in Ohio.
