Note
Memoir of the "travels, adventures and setbacks" of a French adventurer who experienced both the American and French revolutions.
First half covers Patreday's experiences during the American Revolution beginning at age 16 on board the "Renard" bound for America in 1780. Before they reach land, his ship was captured by the British and the crew taken prisoner. After suffering greatly, he was finally released and returned to France, but he re-embarks almost immediately on another ship bound for Boston "loaded with ammunition and artillery for the United States of America." They fulfill this mission, but he is captured again as his ship leaves Boston to join the French fleet; second half covers his experiences during the French Revolution, when he is again imprisoned during the terror. He joins the police force under Napoleon, and had become police commissioner of Croix-Rousse in Lyon.
