"[T]he memorialist has the honor of having served His Present Majesty, and his late royal grandfather above forty years ... with the offices of paymaster and adjutant ... in both of which he was employed in America, & he was ... reduced, and besides the loss of his additional employmjents was oblidged to purchase in again."|"His only son is now serving in General Burgoyne's army a lieutenant of grenediers in the 24th regiment."|"The Memorialist submitts it to Your Excellency whether such long / and to the best of his abilities / faithfull services do not intittle [sic] him to a grant of lands in this province."|In a different hand, probably Chester's, in ink at end: To make out three petitions one as reduced lieut, 2000, one as a reduced adjt. 2,000, & one for his long serviceces 1000 P.C.|In another hand: 1000 acres situated on Thompsons Creek as near as vacant to 1000 acres granted to William Wilton.|Docketed on p. [4]: Memorial of Lieut. Colonel Stiell 60th Regiment, Pensacola 21st December 1776|On Nov. 11,1775, Governor Chester had issued a proclmation establihing West Florida as a sanctuary for Loyalist refugees, and loyalists could also petition for land. -- J.
