Commemorating the first Thanksgiving after the peace, the Reverend Murray writes that God bestowed the blessing of "the INDEPNDENCE of CONFEDERATE AMERICA finally guaranteed by a Definitive Treaty of Peace&in consequence of which, the British garrison evacuated the City of New-York& and the joyful return of its long-exiled citizens, and the welcome restoration of civil government."
