Summary
"I would acquaint you of two gents of the British and two of our men meeting this day at Philipse maner [manor] to set in behalf of the treaty and chiefly on the account of setling the account or prisoners; and that the commander in chief has giving [sic] out in orders, that there is a treaty now on foot in France, and further that it is in the gen.ls [illegible] that the army will be discharged this winter."|"The French army under the command of the Count Roshambo [sic] has bin passing ... with a large quantity of artillery baggage &c., and for further pirticulars you must wait until a further obertunity [sic] will offer."|Aphorisms on verso: "Contentment is a geum beyound a dimon" and "Truth may be blamed but cannot be shamed."|Also on verso: Rec'd of Mr. Jonathan B[arnard?] a butter & will repay him as quick as possible half a doz of the same sort of fra[e]sh butter.|Unidentified watermark, partially illegible.|See also MSS L1992.1.547 nos. 1 & 2 for other Morrill letters.
