Note
"Signé La Fayette. Par oardre du General" at end.
Text in 2 columns.
On George Washington’s orders, Lafayette drafted a letter to the Canadians "in order to mislead the enemy on the aim of our expedition ..." (Lafayette to Chevalier de La Luzerne, May 25, 1780).
Text appears to be an Invitation for a joint American-Canadian expedition against British, but main purpose seems to misdirect the British as to the plans of the French fleet.
On verso: ms. notes relating to Bushrod Washington, heir to Mount Vernon, and taxes and other bills on "the General's estate" in 1819-1822.
Center fold repaired with Japanese tissue; some text loss.
Digitized image available.
