In an unidentified hand(s); all are received "at Sunbury", Northumberland County, Pa.|Docketed on verso: Leiut.s Rec. for money / advanced|Three receipts to Capt. Cas. Weitzel ' for the purpose of recruiting rifle men in his company ...."|The receipts are signed Wm Gray, George Grant, and John Robb. The first 2 are dated 27 March 1776; the third, 5th April 1776. Gray received 15 pounds; Grant, 25 pounds; and Robb, 10 pounds Pennsylvania money.|Caspar Weitzel belonged to Col. Samuel Miles' Pennsylvania State Rifle Regiment from March 1776 to January 1777. -- John Kilbourne. Virtutis praemium (1998) vol. 2, p. 994. The company was later a part of the Continental Army.|One William Gray of Pennsylvania, possibly this one, was an original member of the Pennsylvania Society of the Cincinnati. In addition, one George Grant of Pennsylvania, possibly this one, died Oct. 10, 1779.|Vertical chain lines
