Published
Philadelphia 1780
Description
[1] item ; 16 x 28 cm.
Call Number
MSS L2018F145 MB
Note
Countersigned by Ben Stoddert, Secretary of the Board of War.
Appointment of David Cobb to be "Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment commanded by Coll. [Henry] Jackson…."
Commission establishes Cobb's date of rank as February 7, 1777, soon after Jackson's regiment was established as one of the additional Continental regiments. The regiment was transferred to the Massachusetts Line in 1780, which is probably the reason for Cobb's recommissioning.
Cobb later served as an aide-de-camp to George Washington and he was an original member of the MA Society.
On vellum, with seal.
