Summary
Tonyn, the Royal Governor of East Florida during the Revolution, mentions receiving Lincoln's letter of Aug. 22nd, containing "a summary account of a ballance [sic] due to the province of South Carolina for the exchange of prisoners of war."|He transmits [not included] a statement "by Mr. Mackinen [i.e., McKinen], our Commissary ... [that] will set that business in its proper light" and will "observe ... that no ballance remains on either side." John Mackinen was deputy commissary of stores for the British.|"If however any prisoners were in this province, they would be permitted to go by this opportunity, relying upon good faith that in case any of our people should unfortunately fall into your hands that they would be sent in exchange ...."|Lincoln was an original member of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
