"Please to pay to the barer [sic] what wages has become due to my husband Ensn. James Abbot who did belong to the state regiment commanded by Colo.l Eley [Ely] and captivated with him and stil[l] remains in captivity ...."|Apparently a forwarded letter originally written by Sarah Abbot to the State of Connecticut, which in turn sent it to the Pay Table Committee,|Abbot was captured "in the Sound [Long Island Sound] in 1777.
