"At a regimental court martial whereof Capt. Lt. [Joseph] Reed is president, held from the 21st ... to the 23d instant, the following persons were tried."|Individuals named: Corporal George Clark of Capt [Thomas] Machin's company for "drunkenness and disobedience"; David Wilson a matross in Capt. [Ebenezer] Stevens' company "for overstaying his furlough"; Corporal Barret of Capt. [Joseph] Bliss's company, "for insolent language, disobedience of orders, & disturbing the camp at an unfit hour of the night."; John Nevit a matross in Capt. [Gershom] Mott's company "for absenting himself from his guard ... and being drunk ... next day".|At top of p. [2]: apparently an addendum to the Nevit verdict but starting mid-sentence: "with absenting himself from his guard one night and being drunk .... The prisoner pleads guilty of being absent ... but not of being drunk. Also a Corporal Smith's sworn testimony regarding a prisoner, probably Nevit.|The verdicts: Corporal Clark reduced to the rank of matross; Wilson to receive fifty lashes; Barret reduced to a matross; Nevit not guilty of being drunk, but guilty of absenting himself from guard and sentenced to receive fifty lashes. "The commandant approves ... the foergoing proceedings [but] [i]n consequence of ta recommendation of the court, Nevit being a young recruit, his stripes are remitted."|Possibly removed from a larger collection of orders. Stained and taped but separated at fold.|George Fleming, Joseph Reed, Thomas Machin, and Ebenezer Stevens were original members of the New York Society of the Cincinnati.
